Third Grade Assignments

Week of:                      Jan. 14-18, 2008

and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake"

Review:                                                               Matthew 5:10

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.                 

Language

Our Next Rules (pp. 60-76):  After page 76, we will have our next test. We will be learning about:

contractions, using is, are, is there, are there, was, were, has, have, synonyms, antonyms, & homonyms.

Contraction: A word formed by combining two words.  An  apostrophe is used to

show where the letters have been left out.  Contractions are usually used when speaking and not

when writing.

Use is or isn't with one person or thing

Use are or aren't with more than one person or thing

Use are or aren't with the word you

Use there is and is there with one person or thing

Use there are and are there with more than one person or thing 

Synonyms: Are words that have the same meaning or almost the same meaning.

Examples: simple/easy; fast/quick

Antonyms: Are words that are opposite meanings.

Examples: hard/soft; hot/cold

Homonyms: Are words that sound alike but have different meanings.

Examples: know/no; ate/eight

Spelling: List # 18pp. 36-37

Write each word 3xs each (1x in cursive; 2xs print)  Monday & Tuesday Night for Homework

Practice test on Wednesday; Pretest on Thursday; Final Test on Friday (If necessary)

Math: Assignments will be given daily.  Test #14(Friday 01/18/08)

Please have them practice Times tables: Factors 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8     Thank you.

Reading: We are reading a book called Secret in the Maple Tree

Health & Science: We are studying Chapter 5, "Exploring the Oceans" & "Exploring the Pond".  It will cover pages 90-101 and pp. 102-119.  We will study the plants and animals of the ocean & pond.  It is a great study!  We will also continue to work on their Science Notebook.

 

Penmanship: Assignments will be given as needed.  **Please Note Student's name should be in cursive

on all papers.  They also need to write at least one of their spelling words in cursive.

REMINDERS:

1.   P.E. on Tuesday & Friday

2.   Senior Snacks: Tuesday & Friday

3.   Library will now be every other week on Tuesday.
