Driving

A Guide for Safer, More Courteous Transporting

At Central Baptist Christian Academy.

Central has a few quirky traffic patterns that all our drivers must be aware of and follow at all times for safety reasons.  Here are a few basics, with specifics below:

  1. The main driveway and parking lot behind the church building are ONE WAY. No one should EVER drive down behind the church from the church parking lot; no one should EVER drive from the church building directly to the gym building; and no one should EVER drive up the main driveway on the hill.

  2. The gym-ed parking lot works best during heavy traffic times if treated as ONE WAY, though not posted as such. To drop off or pick up students, please enter from the main driveway, and exit from the northern drive.

  3. Only traffic turning right onto Rte. 12 may exit from the church parking lot at the driveway nearest the church. Everyone turning left onto Rte. 12 must exit at the far end of the lot.

  4. The arrows painted on the pavement of the church lot are for church use. Ignore them during school hours in favor of the patterns described here.

  5. Busses and pedestrians ALWAYS have right of way. Please yield. NEVER pass any school bus that has its red flashing lights on. NEVER pass a stopped school bus on the right, even if the lights are not flashing.

AM Drop Off

  1. Grades 4-12 may be dropped off in the upper gym-ed lot by the double doors between 7:45 and 8:25.

  2. Grades K4-3 should be dropped off behind the church building after 7:45. All students should be dropped off behind the church building and should report to the office after 8:25. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD ANY CAR TURN TOWARD THE GYM BUILDING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL!

  3. Parents of K4 students may bring students in through the church lobby if Mrs. DePue is in her room.

  4. Anyone driving behind the church building should follow these rules in addition to the safety rules above: please stay in single file; Stop, Drop your student, and Roll away to make room for the next parent!; and if you must park please park behind the church itself (NOT over by the gym), and out of the way of all pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

  5. We recommend dropping off between 8:05 and 8:15, when traffic is lighter, and your students can easily get to class on time by 8:25. Parents arriving between 8:20 and 8:25 are putting unnecessary pressure on their students, and our traffic pattern.

PM Pick Up

  1. No drivers may pull down behind the church between 2:00 and 3:00. BUSSES ONLY!  Parents arriving to pick up students early will need to park in the church lot and walk down to the office.

  2. Grades K5-3 are generally picked up in the upper Church lot; grades 4-12 are picked up in the upper gym-ed lot. Parents with students in both age groups should let their students know which lot to meet at, and consistently pick them all up at one spot.

  3. Traffic in the upper church lot forms a circle by the glass doors, with a single file lining straight back through the parking lot. Parents are asked to stay in their cars; pull as far forward as possible; load your children when you get to the circle; and leave immediately so that others can get in and out. If students are late arriving to the pick-up point for some reason, the parents should pull around to the end of the line and go through again, rather than holding up traffic.

  4. Parents who choose to park and walk over to get their children should park out of the way of bus traffic and the regular pick-up lane.

  5. Traffic in the upper gym-ed lot forms a circle from the main drive to the upper exit.  Parents should pull as far forward as possible; cars should not block the exit; parents who pull over and park should not block traffic as they attempt to leave once students are on board. Special care should be taken as students cross through the lane of traffic to parked cars.

Thank you for cooperating for everyone’s safety!
